300 Days “Boots On Ground”
JR just came home during his lunch hour and informed me that during his orders briefing, he was told 300 days ‘boots on ground’. For those of you who don’t know what that means, it means that the 8 month deployment just became a 10 month deployment. Boots on ground means that these 10 months start when he touches down in Kuwait and does not include the 2-3 weeks he will be spending in Norfolk for his briefing and debriefing.
So what do we have here? We have 3 week in Norfolk, followed by 10 months in Kuwait, followed by another 3 weeks in Norfolk after he gets back. We have 11.5 months. Leaving on November 13th, the day before Alex’s 5th birthday, he’ll miss the entire age 5 of Alex and an entire year of Sarai.
He’s going to need a BIG vacation when he gets home. I’m thinking that we’ll go to the beach for a couple of weeks, but then again, it’ll be pretty cold at the beach considering he’ll be back late October early November. Maybe a big vacation somewhere tropical where he can play with the girls and enjoy some carefree, reaquainting time.
Any ideas?
